Fans, Faith and the Thrill of the Future with The Vampire Diaries’ Nathaniel Buzolic
by Hetal

Today two new interviews with Nate were released. The first one is with Luna Magazine where he talked about his faith, his role as an Original Vampire Kol in The Vampire Diaries, his onscreen siblings, his passionate fanbase and his hometown Sydney.
Buzolic is passionate about acting, and his enthusiasm also extends to a range of interests including basketball, snowboarding, photography, pirates and the fight against human trafficking.
‘I was obsessed with basketball as a kid, that was my first love, and I’m an avid snowboarder. Recently, I’ve also become quite fond of photography. I bought a Canon camera not too long ago, and I’m sort of obsessed with that. I’m always taking photos – if I wasn’t an actor, photography is definitely something that I would pursue more seriously.
‘I’m also really passionate about causes that are going on in the world today. A lot of people don’t know that, right now, we have the most slaves we’ve ever had in history – about 27 million. I’m passionate about that, because I feel like a lot of people are deprived of the right to make their own choices, and I’ve been blessed to be able to do what I want. It’s been nice to be able to reach a larger community and make them aware that not everyone has the same freedom that we do.
‘One other thing that people might not know is that I’m obsessed with pirates. I don’t know why. If I could do any movie, I’d love to do a pirate one.’
‘All the actors on the show work really hard to give the audience something special, and I think they’ve done a fantastic job in casting – there’s so many different personalities that they’ve brought to life on screen. It doesn’t get boring, and there’s always a new twist. I think the addition of Joseph Morgan – he plays Klaus – has been really incredible. He’s really brought a new dynamic to the show and he has absolutely become a fan favourite.’
‘I think Vampire Diaries is the best thing I’ve done. The attention to detail in the States is great. The sets are so elaborate, and they put so much time into the props and fantastic wardrobes and make-up.
‘I’ve been very fortunate playing an Original Vampire, as it seems that they have been really popular with the audience. I think that vampires are really interesting – I was thinking about it last night, and it would be interesting to know that nothing could ever really hurt you. I like playing Kol because I like delving into what that power brings to these interactions with the rest of the characters in Vampire Diaries.’
‘My faith makes me who I am and gives me my strength. I’m actually quite proud of it, and I find that people on Twitter have actually responded to it. Often it is a touchy topic and people are shy about saying what they believe, and I think it is a sad thing. As soon as I knew I was going to be on Diaries, I made a conscious choice to be open about my faith because it is very important to me. At the end of the day, being a Christian, for me, is to love other people.’
