Deadline has reported that Charles Michael Davis (known for his roles as Liam in Switched at Birth and Kwan Kirkland in The Game) has been casted as Klaus’ protege Marcel in the potential Vampire Diaries spinoff, The Originals.

Wicked, wild and charismatic, Marcel is a former kicked-around street rat who now calls the shots in the supernatural playground of New Orleans. As a modern-day vampire, he’s fierce and bold, able to accomplish as much with his charm as he is with his strength.

In episode 20 of The Vampire Diaries this season, which will serve as a backdoor pilot to the new series, Klaus will go back to New Orleans, where he will be reunited with Marcel. Elijah, intent on helping his brother find redemption, must side with Marcel’s enemies in order to keep Klaus in line.

Aside from Joseph Morgan and Daniel Gillies, Phoebe Tonkin will reprise her role as Hayley in the spinoff and Daniela Pinneda will play a witch.
